WEEKDAY SCHOOL

The overall goal of the Elementary Release time is that the students learn and know God’s story and plan for the redemption of sinful mankind. It is exciting to journey through the Bible with the children as they see that there is one amazing story woven throughout all the historical events recorded from Genesis through Revelation. While keeping our eye on The Problem (man is a helpless sirmer) and The Promise (first given in Genesis 3:15, fulfilled in Jesus Christ), the central message of the Bible comes alive.
The first graders embark on their journey through the first part of the Bible timeline. The journey starts with Creation and goes through the time of the Judges (up to around 1000 B.C.). The students not only learn hand motions to help them remember the key story events, but also memorize seven Bible verses that express the key theme.
The second graders continue on with the Bible timeline from the Judges through the book of Revelation. They see how Jesus is clearly the focus of the entire Bible. One of their memory verses (Matthew 5:17) is Jesus’ oxi words stating that He is the flulfillment of the “Law and the Prophets.” Like the first graders, the second graders learn additional hand motions and Bible memory verses.
The third graders focus on seven key Biblical truths about Jesus (that He is the Mighty God, the Redeemer, the King, the loving Shepherd, trustworthy, kind, and personal). We “fill in” the Bible timeline with stories we have not yet covered, look at some hymns and their history, go over the Lord’s Prayer, and relate what we are learning about Jesus to what it means for our lives. These students learn a song to help them remember the books of the Bible, in addition to their Bible verse memorization.
Though the students in the fourth and fifth grades retrace our journey through the Bible timeline, they expand on their knowledge using a manual for note-taking, are more involved in Bible reading in class, are encouraged with deeper questioning through the story, as well as review and memorize related Bible verses.
The classes are held in the Farmers State Bank/Rose Creek basement. Each grade meets for one hour per week: the third and fifth grades on Tuesdays and the first, second, and fourth grades on Wednesdays.
It is a privilege to have this regular time each week together to look at, study, and memorize God’s Holy Word! My hope is that you, as parents and/or the church body encourage these children in this key part of their education.
